Travellers to Malaysia can experience the excitement of the Monsoon Cup sailing event in Terengganu next month.
The prestigious international regatta will take place in Pulau Duyong between November 22nd and 27th 2011 and will see top sailors from around the world competing for titles.
Since its introduction in 2005, the cup has had a transformative effect on the local area, turning the previously quiet Pulau Duyong into a thriving hub for water sports, dining, tourism and souvenirs.
As the second-biggest sporting event in the country, it regularly attracts celebrity and VIP guests, with the likes of Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh and George Benson attending in previous years.
Accompanying the racing itself is Karnival Monsoon, a programme of activities for all the family that commenced on September 30th and will run all the way through to the end of the tournament.
Events include sailing and kayaking activities, beach football and netball tournaments, quizzes, colouring contests for kids and karaoke competitions.
Sailing enthusiasts can choose from a generous selection of Malaysia hotels at AsiaRooms.com, such as the Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort & Spa, the venue for the Monsoon Cup.
Full details about the competition and its history can be located at monsooncup.com.my.

The Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta (19 - 27 November 2010)
Established in 1990, it is Malaysia’s oldest keelboat sailing regatta and one of the region’s premier sailing events, ranking alongside Thailand’s Phuket King’s Cup and Hong Kong’s China Coast Regatta and China Sea Race.
The only other sailing event in Malaysia of any stature is the 5 year old Royal Langkawi International Regatta. The "Raja Muda" is also one of the very few true offshore passage racing regattas in the region, the others being Australia’s Sydney to Hobart and various coastal races, and Hong Kong’s China Sea/San Fernando and Vietnam/ Hainan races.
The Regatta takes place each November over the course of 9 days, and is timed to finish a week prior to the Phuket King’s Cup, as many yachts compete in both events. The RMSIR opens in Port Klang on Friday with a welcome party where the Regatta Patron, HRH Sultan of Selangor and/or another VIP such as the Minister of Tourism presents plaques and welcomes the participants. On Saturday morning the yachts, watched by the media, race 80+ miles overnight to Pangkor to arrive by Sunday morning. That evening there is a beachside prizegiving party attended by local Perak officials.
On Monday at midday the yachts race overnight to Penang to arrive there on the Tuesday morning. In the afternoon there is a friendly Trishaw race followed by a hawker foods street party at the Tanjong City Marina in George Town. All day Wednesday there are races in the waters north of Tanjong Bungah, followed by a prizegiving party at Khoo Kongsi, graced by a Penang VIP.
Thursday sees the yachts race overnight to Langkawi to arrive early the next morning. Friday is a spare day for some yachtsmen to relax, shop, play golf, etc., while others head for the harbour for extra races for their classes, or catch up on any postponed races from previous days. On Saturday there are more races within Bass Harbour, with local TV and other media in attendance, followed by the final gala prize giving dinner, customarily graced by HRH Sultan of Selangor and other notables, at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club.

Treasury of the World: Jewelled Arts of India in the Age of the Mughals (31 July 2010 - 30 December 2010)
This is the most lavish display of historic jewellery ever seen in Malaysia. The pieces in this exhibition exemplify the artistic sophistication and technical finesse of Indian craftsmen in the age of the Mughals, especially during the 16th to the 18th century.
The Indian Subcontinent is a land naturally rich in gems and is home to the most highly developed range of the jewelled arts of any nation on earth. S
ome of the most remarkable pieces on view here belonged to a succession of Mughal emperors, while many other objects were the proud possessions of a variety of princely patrons.
All demonstrate the dazzling mastery of the Indian jewellery artists, whose materials typically were gold, rubies, emeralds, diamonds and pearls.
The objects on display are from the personal collection of Sheikh Nasser and Sheikha Hussah al-Sabah of Kuwait, the most significant collectors of Indian jewelled arts in the world.
Over the past ten years the exhibition has travelled to a number of leading cultural institutions, including the Louvre and the British Museum. Kuala Lumpur will be the last stop on this global tour.

MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL GOURMET FESTIVAL 2010 (MIGF2010)
Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday 21 September :-- More than two thousand of the country’s ‘who’s who’ gathered in the Grand Ballroom, Pyramid One, of the Sunway Convention Centre last night for one of Malaysia’s most spectacular, world class events – the Gala Launch of the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival 2010 (MIGF2010).
An annual event, now into its 10th year, the Gala Launch showcases the fabulous food that will be served up by the 30 top fine dining restaurants taking part in the month long MIGF2010 that runs from 1st to 30th October 2010.
For this glittering Gala Launch occasion, each of the Festival Restaurants created beautifully designed stations to present samples from their Festival Menus for the two thousand VIP guests to savour. The stellar guest list included royalty, over fifty foreign ambassadors, captains of industry, leading corporate personalities and a host of local and international food and tourism writers. Add to the mix showbiz entities, social movers and shakers, fashion and lifestyle pace setters, top hoteliers and restaurant owners – and it is no wonder that the Gala Launch is considered by many to be the main event of the year!
Among the VIPs, celebrity guests and food journalists gathered in their finest was the guest of honour, Deputy Minister for Tourism YB Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit, who took his place by the launching stage in anticipation of the grand opening. As the emcee called the gathered throng to the stage, a hush fell and all eyes were on the stage where a solitary sentry box stood. This year the theme is “Magical Chefs” and as if on cue a ‘magical chef’ appeared. Opening the door of the sentry box, he showed the empty interior. In a display of wizardry, he rotated the box a few times before reopening the door to reveal Festival Organising Chairman YBhg Dato’ Steve Day!
After a short speech, Dato’ Steve accompanied Datuk Dr James to cut through a giant Chef’s Hat which marked the main entrance to the ballroom. With the crowd following and flashlights going off, the pair were greeted by a wall of sound as a Latin band exploded into life, the drum beats resounding around the ballroom as dancers swayed to the infectious rhythms. On the stage, the Festival Chefs joined in the rhythm ‘playing’ pots and pans in unison with the samba beat. Thousands of candles lit up the ballroom which was filled from wall to wall with colourful restaurant stations offering exotic Festival fare – all succulent items from the special Festival Menus that will be served at special Festival Prices by Festival Restaurants throughout the month of October. What a way to start MIGF 2010!

Participants of ADW are in for an exciting time in Kuala Lumpur with dinners; city tours; street parties in the heart of Kuala Lumpur's entertainment zone, Golden Triangle; and passes to the SIC Paddock Village during the MotoGP. The highlight of the ADW is the Ducati Riding Experience (DRE) - a motorcycle riding clinic conducted by Italian riding experts where participants can learn basic, intermediate or advanced levels of riding the Ducati right on the SIC track. Several Ducati demo bikes will be made available for loan during the DRE, however places for the riding clinic are limited.
Organised by Ducati APAC, the official importer of the Ducati brand in Malaysia, the event is co-hosted by Tourism Malaysia.
To help promote Malaysia during this time, some 16 Mega Fam participants from 7 countries are also being hosted by Tourism Malaysia. Their participation in the Mega Fam tour is expected to generate returns in the form of publicity write-ups on Malaysia in their respective publications.
