4 More days to register for Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon (APBIM)

The registration for Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon (APBIM) is now extended until the 5th of November 2011.

The categories available for registration are HALF MARATHON, 10KM RUN and FUN RUN. Registration for FULL MARATHON is closed, but for special requests please write to info@penangmarathon.gov.my .

Till now , 24,000 participants have registered for the run. The APBIM secretariat would like to encourage everyone to take this extension as an opportunity to register yourselves, especially in the HALF MARATHON and 10KM RUN. 

Runners for these two categories will receive running vest, bib, finishers’ medal and certificates. For runners who would like to just try out and have fun, you can join the Fun Run. This category will not be timed and runners will receive t-shirts.
Runner who completes the run (in all categories) will stand a chance to win 2 exciting lucky draws! The first is the brand new Proton Saga sponsored by Plenitude and the second is a motor bike, sponsored by Nomad.

Please note that the Penang Bridge will be closed from 1.00am to the 10.00am on 20th of November. The Tun Dr. Lim Chong Ewe Expressway will be close from 12.00am to 10.00 am. Alternatively, you can take the ferry service which will be operating 24hours on the 20th of November. Six APBIM Shuttles will be provided from Jetty to Pulau Jerejak Jetty throughout the night non-stop.

Celebrating Ramadhan

On the 1st of August 2011, Muslims all over the world will welcome the holy month of Ramadhan.

During Ramadhan, Muslims abstain from food and drinks and indulging excessive or ill-natured conduct, from dawn to dusk.  It is one of the 5 pillars of Islam, an obligation for Muslims. 

Ramadhan is a month of spiritual reflection, where one learns the value of patience and perseverance. The end of Ramadhan is marked on the 1st of Syawal, where Hari Raya Aidil Fitri is celebrated.

Penang International Gourmet Festival (22nd Dec 2010 to 2nd January 2011)

The 1st Penang International Gourmet Festival (PIGF) begins from 22nd December 2010 till 2nd January 2011.


This festival made up of a single booklet is a festival-within-a-booklet held to coincide with the Year-End festivities by including promotions of gourmet outlets during the holiday season. With a total of 32 restaurants participating in this festival, PIGF is held to promote the gourmet food in Penang which includes European Fusion and Modern Asian. Rapid Penang, The Preferred Public Transportation, also plays its part in this festival by including in the booklet - which Rapid Penang buses will get you to the destination of your food outlet of choice.


This festival is put together by the Minister of Tourism Penang Office together with Tourism Malaysia, Penang Global Tourism (PGT), HSBC, MATTA Penang Chapter, Malaysian Association of Hotels Penang (MAH-P), Chef Association of Malaysia - Penang Chapter, F&B Executive Association - Penang Chapter, Penang Tourist Guides Association and Association of Tourist Attraction Penang (ATAP). A total of 20,000 copies of The 1st Penang International Gourmet Festival booklet was printed for this festival, half of the amount of booklet which was sponsored by Tourism Malaysia and the other half sponsored by HSBC.

Pesta Chingay, Lion & Dragon Dance Parade @ Butterworth

Last Sunday, Penang island witnessed the biggest Pesta event, Penang Pesta Chingay, Lion & Dragon Dance Parade held through the streets of Penang in conjunction with the month-long Pesta Carnival in Penang!

This week, the teams from the Penang Wushu Lion Dance, Penang Chingay Association, North Malaya Chingay Association, Kedah Chingay Association, Sungai Dua Chingay Association, Lebuh Presgrave Chingay Association and more will be paraded through the street of Butterworth from Jalan Bagan Luar to Jalan Raja Uda.

This Parade is an annual street parade held in Penang. Today, the parade has evolved into a massive multi-cultural and international event.

Pesta Pulau Pinang, Hangzhou Acrobatic Troupe

All-Star National Chingay Competition

Date: 18th Dec 2010
Venue: City Hall, Esplanade
Time: 7pm to 11pm
Entrance: FREE admission

This year, look forward to see 9 teams Chingay star contestants from Sarawak, Perak, 2 teams from Kedah, and 5 teams from Penang showing off their creativity, flexibility and superb skills with stunts in balancing the towering flag poles on their fingers, foreheads, shoulders and teeth.

The teams will be given a time duration of 8-minutes to perform for the crowd and judges. The participating teams will be judged based on their discipline, their uniform, team spirit, skill stunts and overall performance. The results were given on score cards by each judge and were then tabulated for an average result which determined the results of each team.

This holiday season promises to be an action packed one, and an action packed one it will be.


The Penang Pesta Open Dragon Boat Race, highlights the pounding of the drums, one at each boat, spurs the rowers as the 28 teams strive to compete each other for a race that is expected to be neck to neck until the very end.


Come witness as the teams from Russia, Brunai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Melaka, PDRM Bukit Aman, Navy and Penang teams like Pacific West, Penang Forward, Anak Malaysia Batu Uban Dragon Boat Team, Kelab Pendayung Taman Perbandaran and many more taking on the challenge to compete each other at the Teluk Bahang Dam, Penang.

Her acoustic driven melodies and thoughtful lyrics are set to take the listener on a journey of a different kind.

This festival includes a bazaar of all things Indonesian, such as handmade traditional items as well as deliciously fragrant and popular Indonesian delicacies, cultural performances and also a lucky draw.

Pesta Pulau Pinang

It's that time of the year again when Penang is all abuzz with fun-filled exciting activities! The annual carnival in Penang known as 'Pesta Pulau Pinang' is back again,and begins from 1st December 2010 all the way into the new year on 2nd January 2011. Organised by the Penang State Government, this carnival is carried out daily from 6pm till 11.30pm. With its tagline, 'Jom Pi Penang', this carnival features many specialties in the trade industry, culture, tourism and festivites!


Highlights of the month-long Pesta Pulau Pinang includes FREE performances by specially invited Acheh Cultural Group who will be performing on 2nd and 3rd December 2010 and the Hangzhou Acrobatic Troupe who will be performing from 9th till 13th November 2010 from 8pm till 10pm. Other than that, the carnival consists of its usual attractions and events such as Snake Lady, National Boxing Competition and Muay Thai, a Boria Competition, and a newly introduced PlayStation 3 Tournament alongside other performances of multi-cultural dances and local artistes.

Waseda Brass From Japan will hold a concert titled "The Glorious Brass Music" this 21st Nov 2010. It will be held at Auditorium A, Level 5, KOMTAR from 3:00pm to5:00 pm.


The Waseda Brass was founded in 2000 by members of the brass section of Waseda University’s Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, Japan. The band comprises skilled amateur and professional musicians and has an active role in organising concerts in Japan.


This event aims to promote music appreciation among local citizens, especially that of band music through the performance by talented and gifted musicans. It is also one of the music culture promoted by Penang State Tourism Development & Culture. Local school bands and musicians are invited to this event which provides an opportunity for them to learn about the professional standards of performing. This is not just an evening filled with beautiful music by the Waseda Brass , it is also an exchange of cultures contributing to the close ties between Malaysia and Japan.

Children's Day Carnival at Adventure Zone beachfront area, Golden Sands Resort

168 Years Old "Kew Ong Yah" Grand Float Procession

Hong Kong Street Tow Boh Keong's Kew Ong Yah is 168 years this Sunday 10-10-10!


A grand procession with 30 decorated floats devoted to “KOY” will be paraded this Sunday. Some 10,000 people are expected to witness the procession. There will be also a Dragon, Lion and 24 Drums Troupe in the line up. Special teams from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Johor are participating in this event as well.


The procession will start off at Hong Kong Street Tow Boh Keong Temple and proceed to Carnarvon Street, Magazine Road, Jalan Gurdwara, Macallum Street, McNair Street, Sandilands Road, Jalan C Y Choy, Prangin Ghaut, Weld Quay, Esplanade, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Chulia Street, Penang Road, Jalan Lim Chwee Leong, Carnarvon Street and ends at Hongkong Street.


Kew Ong Yah is also one of Chinese Ancestral Cultural Heritage where all Devotees observes 9 days of strictly vegetarian diet around this time of year in order to obtain blessings of Good Health n Success, Peace and Harmony and Safety from our Deity “Tow Boh”.

Children's Day Carnival

Adventure Zone - Children's Day CarnivalIn conjunction with Childrens' Day 2010, Adventure Zone will be organising 'Adventure Zone and R.E.A.L. Kids' Children's Day Celebration.


Among the activities are children's face painting, clown shows, games such as Fish Me and  Toss Me, MI Diagnostic, and Sunquick games. Adventurous indoor games await the children to complete the day with slides and obstacle race.

Gear up for the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2010 on 21st November 2010 with thousands of other Penangites and runners who will throng across the Penang Bridge in the wee hours of the morning. 


Organised by the State Tourism Development and Culture for the third time around, this year sees a more exciting, fun-filled and better improved run with esteemed partners and sponsors.
