The 4th international Art Expo Malaysia at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre (October 28 to November 1, 2010)

Malaysia's premier art event, the 4th International Art Expo Malaysia 2010, will be held at the Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, from October 28 to November 1, 2010. In conjunction with this event, the Minister of Tourism, YB Dato' Sri Dr.

Ng Yen Yen has launched the 360-page official art catalogue of the Art Expo Malaysia 2010 - deemed a collector's item filled with useful information and colourful listings of the 49 exhibitors (international art galleries and associations). The catalogue also has a section on tips on the Art of Buying Art.

To participants, visitors and art aficionados, the art catalogue is not only a souvenir commemorative must-have, but also a good reference point on galleries and artists and the Art Expo Malaysia.

This year, the expo will feature outstanding artists from reputable art galleries and co-operatives/institutions from a total of 19 countries including Malaysia. The other countries are Argentina, China, Cuba, Ecuador, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Macau, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain and Taiwan.

Topping the events this year is the latest blockbuster digital animation by the highly acclaimed superstar Miao Xiao Chun of China. It is called RESTART and the artist himself will be present during the Art Expo. Last year, his grand presentation Microcosm on multi-panelled screens was a huge hit.

Other events include: The Shaanxi Artists Association led by master artist Wang Xijing; The Cuiheng Culture & Art Village of China; The ACE Embassy Row comprising cutting-edge contemporary art from Argentina, Cuba and Ecuador; Peter Liew's Archi-Heritage facades of old buildings from Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Italy and the United States.

Artists from Germany, Pakistan, Macau, Argentina and Ecuador will be making their debut; while there will also be a marked stronger presence of Japanese artists and Singapore galleries, which are showing a great foreign field apart from the Singaporean big names. Singapore Artists Pavilion will have masters Goh Beng Kwan, Choy Weng Yang, Lim Tze Peng and Lim Yew Kuan.

Indonesia's hot contemporary artists Putu Sutawidjaja and Agapetus Kristiandana will debut with Singapore's S.Bin Art Plus which will also have the Indonesian master Lee Man Fong. MAD Museum of Art & Design will have the Pop Art duo Song Wei (China) and Jahan Loh (Singapore). Singapore's newest gallery Art Trove will present German artists Ewald Platte (1894-1985). Printworks by world-class names such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Joan Miro will also be seen for the first time.

Spain's Madrid-based ATR Gallery, which has been with the Art Expo Malaysia since its inception, will again showcase Spain's fastest rising artists Jesus Curia and Guillermo Oyaguez; while Chris Levine, the British artist noted for his portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, will also be represented by Collectors Contemporary from Singapore.

Myanmar's Summit Arts Collection will have Aung Thiha, known for his fat women. The Philippines' Galerie Joaquin will bring Jaspher Penuliar and for the first time, Daniel dela Cruz, while a second gallery, Galleria Quattrocento will debut.

Malaysia's finest artists across generations from the hottest names and established artists to young and up-and-coming artists will be well represented by the respective leading galleries. Big names include Cheah Yew Saik (City Art Gallery), Dato Sharifah Fatimah Zubir, US-based Khoo Sui Hoe (Artfolio), US-based Eng Tay (Art Accent), Ahmad Zakii Anwar, Jalaini Abu Hassan, Chang Fee Ming (Valentine Willie Fine Art), Raja Shahriman Azzidin (Pelita Hati Gallery of Art) and Syed Thajudeen (Sutra Gallery). Batik artist Chuah Seow Keng strikes out under the Yahong Art Gallery banner, while Art Salon @ SENI will feature the US-based Malaysian-born Lee Long Looi. Art Case Galleries will feature Raja Azhar and Rafiee Ghani, while Gallery Archana will feature Archana Marshall. The younger set will be headed by Tan Kai Sheuan (a2 Gallery), Tan Kok Chet (Artseni Gallery), Samsudin Wahab, Khairul ‘Meme' Shoib and Haslin Ismail (R A Fine Arts - The Gallery).

Entrance to the Art Expo Malaysia is still FREE, and there is also NO entrance charge for Miao Xiao Chun's RESTART.
