Masjid Kapitan Keling (Kapitan Keling Mosque)

The Kapitan Keling, one of the oldest mosque in Penang. Built in 1801 , the mosque land was granted by Sir George Leith, then the Governor of Penang .

Kapitan Keling Mosque got the name from Cauder Mydin Merican, who was leader of Muslim settlers there and popularly known as Kapitan Keling.

Kapitan Keling engineered the construction of the mosque and was the main contractor for the project.

After series of renovation, it has been given a new face lift and has rich mogul architectural design.

The mosque is located at Masjid Kapitan Kling Road (formerly known as Pitt Street) between Chulia Street and Buckingham Road.

Just opposite the mosque there is a good food stall (Nasi Kandar Stall) that you must try if you visit the mosque.

You wouldn't miss the stall when you enter the mosque through the main entrance facing the Masjid Kapitan Kling road.

The mosque welcomes visitors and tourist , however you need to dress properly to enter the mosque. If you don't have proper attire, please get it from the mosque officials.
